IC INFORMATION;
Character Name: Sphintus Carmen
Age: 16
Canon: Magi: The Labyrinth of Magic
Canon Point: Ch. 199
Species: Human
Gender: Male
Orientation: Not applicable, since he's well underage for an adult slot, but he'd rather be 'married' to a woman, in that he comes from a noble line and has to deal with those expectations.
History: Here!
Appearance: Here!

Personality: At first glance, Sphintus Carmen is nothing if not a cocky asshole. He's the heir to a noble family (even if they're now ruined and impoverished), after all. He initially seems to have a lot of disdain for people who aren't as good as him, even when he doesn't initially start out too much more impressive himself. This is obvious in how he introduces himself to Aladdin when they become roommates— he tells Aladdin that he should just drop out since he was placed in the sixth kodor. He's straight-forward about it, and it's not just to be cruel— they kick people out of the academy if they stay in the sixth kodor, after all. He also initially loves the attention he gets from the citizens of the third and fourth levels of Magnostadt proper. He has a big ego, and he likes having it stroked, probably especially because magicians aren't treated quite so royally elsewhere in the world of Magi (well, unless they really prove themselves first).

But that isn't all there is to him, either. He's got a lot of fear and respect for authority figures— most obvious in how he behaves around Mogamett, the headmaster of the Magnostadt Academy. Even though he's a bit of a cocky brat, he seems to know how to behave— when it's necessary. He's even more likely to be a calming force than Titus or Aladdin is, despite his loudness— he's willing to support the status quo in general, up to a point. This is clearly mostly because he doesn't want to shame his struggling family— he mentions that he wouldn't want to disappoint his family multiple times, mostly in risky situations. But yet, he still gets into these risky situations, either out of curiosity or because he genuinely cares about the people around him.

It's obvious that a lot of the time, this is because he really does care about his friends. He heals Titus even when he's grievously injured himself— that speaks for itself. And even though he does respect authority, he's still willing to stand up for everyone in the fifth district and point out that there's a lot of ways to misuse and mistreat magicians, and that farming non-magicians for their magical power isn't really the right way to fix things.

He's also a very expressive guy— he doesn't hide his emotions very well, and when his snake is around he tends to copy or complement Sphintus's expressions. He really enjoys expensive food and shopping— which are at odds with his apparently ruined family reputation but fit with his somewhat flashy personality. Mostly, he just likes it when people listen to him, and he has a ton of pride— even if he's willing to put it aside when it counts.

Abilities: Sphintus specializes in healing magic— we see him using it a few times, and he's a member of the first kodor, which means his abilities are pretty impressive. His most interesting use of his healing abilities is using a magic that cures fatigue to put people into a sleep state. He's also learned to use gravity magic to fly, and has probably studied other types of magic in his time at Magnostadt.

Other: He has a pet snake that is usually wrapped around his neck, but he won't be bringing Kukulcan with him to Holly Heights. How sad.

SAMPLES;
First Person:
[The feed opens upside down— and the young man looks confused, like he isn't quite sure what to do with this device at first. But he smiles once he figures out that he can talk into it.]

Wow, this magic is pretty amazing, huh? Kinda wish Titus or Aladdin could see this.

[He disappears from the screen for another moment as he tries to figure out if tapping the phone on the desk does anything. Obviously, it doesn't really, and he comes back on screen, a little more serious this time. Or maybe he just looks pompous.]

Anyways, I really need to get back home. I've got a lot of really important work to do, and I can't do it here— so you should really tell me the way back. Not that I couldn't figure it out myself if I really wanted to, but—

[He falters for a moment.]

It'll just be faster this way, so help me out, alright? I'll make sure my family knows who's responsible for my absence if you don't!

Third Person:
He'd just gone to bed, after another long day of healing and trying to repair the realm ravaged by the war between Magnostadt and Laem. It was exhausting work, but rewarding too, in its own strange way. He hadn't thought he'd wake up somewhere totally foreign. It was colder, too— just cold enough that he shivered, though maybe that would be a little strange to someone passing by. He didn't really get where he was, but he certainly wasn't with his family anymore.

He forced himself up to his feet, and took a look around. It was green here, and quiet, and it was nothing like any city he'd ever been in. It hadn't quite hit him yet that he was trapped— he still thought this might be some kind of strange dream. He couldn't have gotten separated from his family like this, after all. He was too capable as a magician, and the Carmens didn't really have enemies— not anymore, not when they were just helping to heal people. People back home respected his work.

As he kept looking around— noting the roads, and the buildings further out (what a strange city, though, where everyone lived so far apart), he noticed that he'd been in front of a house— and that there was his name on an envelope attached to the door. He pinched himself once— this wasn't a dream, and he was expected.

But where was he?
